By Majuto Omary
Barely four days before the East and Central African Club championship kicks off at the National Stadium in Dar es Salaam, two teams have pulled out of the tourney.
According to the secretary general of the Tanzania Football Federation Fredrick Mwakalebela, the teams are Denden of Eritrea and CDI Djibouti.
Mwakalebela said so far no reasons have been given by the teams in connection with the eleventh-hour withdrawal.
Following the pullout, the number of competing teams in the championship has dropped to ten.
Teams that have opted out of this edition of Kagame Cup has now increased to three following an earlier pullout of Sudanese champions, El-Merreikh, last month.
The entire fixture of the championship will also be revised, according to Mwakalebela.
The new fixture will possibly be released today by the tournament organisers, Cecafa.
While the three teams have withdrawn from the event, holders APR from Rwanda are expected to jet in tomorrow for title defence.
Teams expected to arrive today are Miembeni FC of Zanzibar and Awassa of Ethiopia and Rayon Sports of Rwanda.
Before the latest development, the teams were divided into three groups at two centres of Dar es Salaam and Morogoro.
In related development, seven committees have been formed to spearhead smooth running of the tourney.
They are media, protocol, competition, technical, referees, medical and security.
Mwananchi Newspaper sports editor Angetile Osiah, has been appointed to head the media committee of the championship.
The media committee is constituted of TFF's information officer Florian Kaijage and Boniface Wambura of Majira newspaper.
Competition committee will be headed by Jamal Bayser who will be assisted by Ahmed Mgoyi and Mwakalebela as the secretary.
Teofrid Sikazwe, Saad Kawemba, Sunday Kayuni and Charles Masanja are to man the technical committee.
Prominent referee Joseph Mapunda leads the referees' committee with Omary Abdulkadir and Leslie Liunda as members.
Medical committee will be under doctors Elias Maige and Ngome Anthony, while protocal committee will be under Shaibu Nnampunde, Henry Tandau, Idd Mshangama.
